Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Programs

Lake County Mental Health/Lutheran Community Services Northwest
Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Programs

Program Description:

  • Outpatient treatment services for residents of Lake County
  • Treatment includes group, individual and family counseling.
  • Assessments, adult and adolescents.
  • Prevention/Intervention community educational presentations, crises counseling and referral, school groups and Natural Helper Program, Botvin Life skills grade 6-8.
  • DUII treatment program
  • Addiction education only program

Program Philosophy:

  • Addiction to alcohol or other drugs is shown by not being able to control use in spite of harmful effects/consequences.
  • Alcohol and other drug abuse affect all parts of a person’s life.
  • Treatment that works must address all parts of the problem.
  • Recovery depends on the person staying free of all mood/mind changing drugs unless for valid medical reasons.

ADMISSION AND TREATMENT POLICIES

  • An assessment will be completed with each client.
  • A problem list goals, and methods to reach goals will be developed with each client. This will be reviewed often.
  • A physical exam is required if:
    • Drugs have been taken intravenously.
    • The client is pregnant.
    • It appears the client’s health has been affected by use of alcohol/drugs.
  • Clients are expected to attend scheduled appointments.
  • If there is no contact for 30 days, treatment may be ended
  • Clients admitted to treatment must agree to remain free from alcohol/drugs. Urinalysis testing may be used to assist a client in staying drug free
  • Fees for treatment will be on a sliding fee scale based on the client’s income.
  • Being clean & sober is only the first step. Ongoing evaluation occurs to ensure that the person’s treatment needs are being met.
  • Alcohol and other drug dependence affect the whole family. Education and treatment are offered to those living with the person in treatment.
  • Referrals to self-help programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous and Ala-non are used to aid the individual and the family in forming a lifelong support system. Other abstinence based community groups are also accessed dependent on the individual.

Program requirements:

  • Having an assessment done does not always mean that an individual will be admitted to our treatment program.
  • After the assessment, clients will be referred to the treatment that will best meet their needs:
    • Level one outpatient
    • Intensive Outpatient Education
    • Relapse Prevention
    • After Care Group
    • Other alcohol/drug treatment (Detox, residential, adolescent treatment)
    • Mental Health counseling
    • Medical treatment
