Justice Forward in Action

Restorative Justice

Restorative justice is an alternative approach to the court-based system. Rather than pursuing punishment, restorative justice seeks to repair the harm through the use of practices that focus on the 5 R’s of restorative justice: Relationship, Respect, Responsibility, Repair, and Reintegration. This is a fundamental shift in in the way we think about and address crime. We do this by asking a different set of guiding questions.

Youth Restorative Justice

Supporting youth in taking responsibility, repairing harm, and moving forward

Justice Forward partners with Multnomah County’s Restorative Justice program to work with youth who have been charged with criminal behavior. Participation is voluntary and designed for young people who want to take responsibility for their actions, repair harm, and make meaningful changes.

Through restorative justice practices, youth are given the opportunity to share their perspective, be heard, understand the impact of their actions, and work collaboratively toward meaningful outcomes. The process also creates space for people who have been harmed to express how they have been affected and identify what they need to support their recovery.
