As the holiday season approaches, we’re excited to invite you to participate in our annual Winter Welcome program! Each year, generous individuals, churches, and community groups come together to provide personalized gifts for refugee, immigrant, and other families served by Lutheran Community Services Northwest.
Whether you’ve participated before or are joining us for the first time, we’d love to have you join us this year!
How Winter Welcome Works
To ensure equitable support for all participating families, we ask donors to spend no more than $50 per recipient.
We match you with an individual or a family based on the number of individuals you can support. To help make shopping easier, we provide a gift wish list with personal preferences for each individual.
Another Way to Help
Gift cards are also welcome! Cards from Safeway, Fred Meyer, Target, and other local retailers help families purchase groceries, clothing, and other essentials. Last year, due to generous contributions from donors, we were able to stretch our Winter Welcome by giving gift cards totaling $2,400 to 12 families who hadn’t been matched with donors.
What to Expect
- Donors who indicate interest (here’s our registration form) will receive a detailed message with specific dates, times, and instructions.
- Early November: Committed donors begin receiving wish lists from their matched recipients.
- December 7 through 11: Donors are welcome to bring gifts to our offices in Portland and Vancouver.

Ready to Join Winter Welcome?
We’ve created a brief sign-up form so you can let us know you are interested in participating, along with whether you’d like to sponsor one or more individuals or a family. Whether you’re supporting one person or several families, your participation brightens the season.
