Safe Families for Children surrounds parents with a caring network of support during stressful or challenging times. Through trusted volunteers and community resources, families can access encouragement, practical help, and safe, temporary support for their children, helping parents build stability while keeping families connected.
We believe families can be most successful when they feel supported and empowered, and don’t have to face a crisis alone. Safe Families for Children hosts vulnerable children and creates extended family–like supports for families through a community of devoted volunteers who are motivated by compassion to keep children safe and families together. Our vision is to create a world where children are safe, and families are transformed through radically compassionate communities.

We build community connections for isolated families by hosting children in approved volunteer homes, mentoring parents, and helping families navigate resources. We currently partner with ten churches throughout the Treasure Valley to provide a network of support for parents who feel alone and are having difficulty caring for their children as they face life’s challenges. Our goal is to keep children safe and parents supported so families can thrive!
The #1 reason parents reach out for help is that they have no one else to turn to during a crisis.
We serve families facing challenges such as:
Host Families provide a safe and loving family home environment for children while parents work to gain stability. Length of stay can vary from a few hours up to a few months depending on the needs of a family and the capacity of a Host Family. In Yamhill County, the average length of hosting is 1-3 weeks.
Family Friends give care to families being served and Host Families. They provide support, love, and friendship as families work towards healing. Support may include meals, delivering supplies, help with household tasks, befriending and mentoring parents, babysitting, or help with transportation.
This is the easiest ways to volunteer with Safe Families! Resource Friends connect families with services and supplies. And since many children placed with Host Families come with few possessions, Resource Friends can help Host Families provide children with basic needs. Resource Friends can collect or donate clothing, baby items, furniture, toys, etc., or help connect families to services such as household repairs, car repairs, resume assistance, transportation, etc.
Family Coaches play a vital role in helping families to thrive. They build relationships with families being served and with Host Families to ensure that both receive the support they need. Family Coaches help coordinate volunteer efforts to connect families with resources and services, and they work with our community partners to help parents gain stability for their families.
Our team of compassionate volunteers can provide temporary, safe care for children, mentorship, help finding the right resources, and support in figuring out next steps as you work toward stability.
