The Senior Companion Program (SCP), part of AmeriCorps Seniors, connects caring volunteers with older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout Pierce and Kitsap Counties.
Our Senior Companion Program connects caring volunteers with older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout Pierce and Kitsap Counties. Through regular visits, companions build genuine friendships that help reduce loneliness and make it easier for people to remain independent in their own homes.
Volunteers spend time talking over coffee, playing cards, working on hobbies, taking walks, running short errands, or accompanying their companions to medical appointments. These simple moments of connection often become lasting friendships that make a real difference in both people’s lives.
A Program That Benefits Everyone
The Senior Companion Program is part of AmeriCorps Seniors, a national initiative that helps older adults live independently while creating meaningful opportunities for older volunteers to serve their communities.
Eligible volunteers receive a modest tax-free stipend and mileage reimbursement, making it possible for more people to volunteer regardless of income. In return, they gain the opportunity to share their time, experience, and compassion with someone who truly benefits from their presence.
