What Do 3 Alpacas, a Llama, and LCSNW Staff Have in Common?

Oct 3, 2026

LCSNW proudly participated in the annual Teddy Bear Parade, put on by Gresham Soroptimists in downtown Gresham, on Saturday, Sept. 26. LCSNW was among 80 entries in the 44th annual late-summer event. Upwards of 2,000 spectators typically turn out to watch the parade, a favorite tradition in the city of Gresham.

“This is such a fun way for us to build awareness about services we offer in east Multnomah County,” said Peter Vogelaar, director for LCSNW offices in the greater Portland-Vancouver metro area.

Last year, LCSNW opened its first office in Gresham, 2072 NE Burnside Rd., where we offer behavioral health services, as well as services for refugees and immigrants.

Staff from LCSNW offices in greater Portland and Vancouver joined the parade and greeted families lining the streets. We were accompanied by three alpacas and a llama from Gaston Ranch Alpacas in Washougal, Washington. They proved to be a hit with thousands of families lining the sidewalks on the nearly 1-mile parade route.

The day began with cool fall temperatures before giving way to sunshine and clear skies, creating a perfect backdrop for the community celebration.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped represent LCSNW. We had a great time and hope to return next year. Learn more about our services in greater Portland-Vancouver.
