What to Expect as an Individual Participant

Education—Informing youth about substances and how they can effect a person’s health and behavior. Providing statistics of substance use and how it affects school, life expectancy and social life.

Prevention—In addition to educational information, prevention includes exploration of why a person may be using a substance and healthier options to introduce to eliminate need for substance use or risky behaviors.

Treatment—Includes a diagnosis that shows evidence a person may have a dependence ona substance and needs more intense help to obtain abstienence. Counselors can treat a Level 1 outpatient only. Treatment involves everything Education and Prevention provides, as well as supporting youth in applying the skills learned, going in-depth to determine which changes they feel would be beneficial. Peer support and case management are offered to support lifestyle changes.

How Much Time is Needed?

The duration depends entirely on the youth’s engagement.

Education and Prevention can vary between a couple hours to a couple of weeks.

Treatment is more structured and will take the time it takes for a youth to complete all the requirements of the program. This will take a minimum of 4 months, and we have seen youth go up to a year.  At that time we assess and refer the youth to a higher level of care if needed.

Clients Will Experience Evidence-Based Methods Such As:

Interactive Journaling Motivational Interviewing
Cognitive Behavioral Interventions Stages of Change
Decisional Balance Mindfulness
Client-Centered Approach
