Bellingham Severe Weather Shelter
Providing winter shelter for individuals and families experiencing homelessness
Lutheran Community Services Northwest is partnering with Whatcom County, Washington, once again to host the county’s designated Severe Weather Shelter for the 2025–26 winter season.
Located at our downtown Bellingham property, purchased by LCSNW in early 2024 after the 133-year-old church congregation held its final service, the shelter provides overnight refuge for up to 60 people (per night) experiencing homelessness.
The shelter will operate from November 2025 through mid-March 2026, opening on nights when temperatures are forecasted to drop to 32°F or below. Activation notices will be shared at least 48 hours in advance. The facility and shelter are staffed and operated for safety by Whatcom County. An LCSNW Community Engagement Manager is also contracted this year to support the shelter program.
