Caregiving is in Lori Titus’ DNA.

When Titus, a Tacoma resident, was in high school, her father, Robert Olsen, was a caregiver to her grandmother. Titus would help with her grandmother’s care by keeping her company while her dad ran errands, or she would sit with her grandmother as she slept.

She enjoyed the experience. After graduating college, and with encouragement from her father, who was working as a caregiver for LCS Northwest’s Home Care program at the time, Titus joined our caregiving staff.

Fourteen years later, Titus continues to serve as a home care aide. She was honored as Caregiver of the Year for the Tacoma Home Care program in 2017.

“I’ve known Lori for many years and she understands client needs and provides quality service. Her clients have only had wonderful things to say about her,” said Trudy Sorensen, District Director for South Puget Sound. “She’s extremely reliable and her supervisors can be assured that her clients are well cared for.”

Willa Mungen, a homecare client in Fircrest, believes the award is well deserved. Titus has provided caregiving services to Mungen for two years.

“Lori has enhanced my quality of life. She competently helps me while encouraging me to be independent. She is observant and willing to attend to needed chores,” Mungen said. “She is lively and fun, and she likes the same coffee I do!”

Helping people remain independent and in their own homes is what motivates Titus to be a caregiver. She truly takes an interest in clients.

“They have amazing life stories to tell,” Titus observed. “I have learned that everyone has a story, a lifetime of experiences to share with the world if given the chance.”

Titus has a degree in biology. When she isn’t working, Titus likes to be outdoors and study wildlife. She enjoys biking, hiking, reading, singing in choir and sewing.
