Grant Boosts Mental Health First Aid Availability

Access to free Mental Health First Aid trainings is expanding across Benton and Franklin Counties, thanks to the award of a $7,500 grant to LCSNW Tri-Cities. At their annual Celebration of Philanthropy event on December 3rd, the 3 Rivers Community Foundation presented LCSNW Tri-Cities with an award check to continue this impactful work.
LCSNW has offered free Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainings in the Tri-Cities since 2018. This powerful program equips individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to identify, understand, and respond to those experiencing a mental health crisis. As a certified MHFA trainer herself, LCSNW Tri-Cities District Director Sharon Gentry says that the curriculum is an invaluable tool.
“I have heard firsthand from participants what it means to be able to sit with someone experiencing mental health symptoms and feel equipped to offer encouragement and support,” Gentry says. “We are so grateful to 3 Rivers Community Foundation for their continued support.”

Thanks to the Foundation’s grant dollars, LCSNW is adding two MHFA trainers, allowing our district to serve an additional 180 new participants. Beyond equipping those who attend the trainings, increased offerings also helps raise awareness and break stigmas that often surround mental illness. Community members in the Tri-Cities can register for Mental Health First Aid trainings online HERE.
